Are you just starting out homeschooling? Or trying to juggle more students this year and feeling a bit overwhelmed? We get it!
HomeWorks by Precept is a great way to have a planning mentor and guide to help you through the year!
Full disclosure – Our family does not currently use BJU Press Homeschool materials. We love our Charlotte Mason education – but I have reviewed many of their curricula from multiple grade levels and they are thorough, beautifully illustrated, and biblically sound. I recommend them to any family who wants a solid plan that is textbook based. Their distance learning instructors are fun, engaging, and absolutely dedicated to providing excellent classes- PLUS the distance learning option allows an extra level of independence for moms with many to educate or who are navigating the life of a working homeschool mom. We love our friends at BJU Press Homeschool and HomeWorks by Precept and think you will, too!
Here’s a review from my friend and fellow homeschool mom, Rebekah:
My family made the switch to BJU Press three years ago, when my oldest daughter was in fifth grade. We were using another well-known faith based curriculum but felt ready for a change. Our first year using BJU Press, I chose to purchase the parent led grade kit. The teacher’s guides are a wealth of extra information and provide plenty of extra activities to add to your lessons if you so choose. Math is in a spiral approach, with new concepts presented and old concepts reviewed daily. History and science have a strong faith base and enough hands-on activities to keep minds engaged. This year I purchased the seventh grade Distance Learning Online (DLO) grade kit for my oldest daughter, and History and Science DLO for my fourth grader. It was a bit of an adjustment, especially for my seventh grader. The material presented is very academically rigorous and promotes the development of good study skills. We did purchase the science lab kit and she enjoyed being able to do the hands-on experiments along with her teacher on the video. While the DLO programs come with lesson guides and the amount of work can seem overwhelming, it is still easy to tailor the program to your needs by adding, revising, or removing assignments. The DLO program allows us to do “school” anywhere we have wifi, and the videos keep my daughters engaged.

Hello! My name is Mary McIntyre. My family and I live in Georgia where my husband pastors a small church. I have been homeschooling for 15+ years, and have been privileged to use BJU Press Homeschool curriculum for more than 20 years!
Prior to becoming a homeschooling mom, I taught in Christian high schools for ten years using primarily BJU Press materials. However, I have also used several other curricula, including Abeka, Saxon, and ACE, among others.
When it came time for our children to begin school, I chose BJU Press curriculum. However, by the end of the first year, in addition to teaching our oldest, I was also teaching four other children ranging from 2nd through 8th grade using whatever materials I could cobble together as cheaply as possible, while also trying to keep my second child, a pre-schooler, entertained and out of trouble! Needless to say, this was a challenging experience; yet, in many homeschooling families, a scenario not unlike this is played out year after year.
After that year, my husband and I made the decision to begin using the BJU Press Distance Learning program. We didn’t know if we’d be able to afford it, but we were convinced that it was the direction God wanted us to go with our homeschooling, so we stepped out in faith, trusting God to provide the finances. At that time the classes were delivered via satellite. Since then, the satellite has been discontinued and the name Distance Learning adopted for the program, but the quality materials and instruction by Godly, creative teachers remains intact.
