One way we’ve been able to cater to the needs of the boys’ various learning challenges and styles is through field trips. It’s an incredible way to bring history to life, to make great works of art tangible, and to help our children understand the humanity of people they never met.
.
Both boys are working on Apologetics for Trail Life so visiting the @creationmuseum and @arkencounter just made sense. Plus their mama and Poppy had both been wanting to go 😁.
.
We had an amazing time. We all learned so much and left with many new things to consider. As it always goes with such trips. What a blessing!
.
Do you incorporate field trips into your #homeschool learning? I would encourage you to if you haven’t!

Ebenezer stones are markers. And there are things that need remembered, if you’ll forgive my Appalachian eloquence.
.
I once was lost, but now am found.
.
I was blessed to become a mother twice over.
.
The Lord redeemed the days when he called our family to homeschool.
.
I have no greater joy than to see my children walking in grace as brothers in Christ.
.
I am sanctified more each day through the mercies of my God as I parent and lead these precious ones.
.
I have the privilege of watching my boys grow into men of valor.
.
I have a husband who leads us and shepherds our boys by words and example.
.
We have a church family that takes great care of us, loves us, and challenges us.
.
There are no small joys, friend. Every moment we see the glory and grace of our amazing God is a moment worth making another Ebenezer marker and proclaiming His goodness to the world.
.
I have seen the goodness of God in the broken world in which we live. I have seen the glimpses of glory in the shimmering drops of rain as they collect so many rainbows on the petals of a rose. I have seen the faithfulness of my Lord in answered prayers, especially those that were answered in ways I didn’t want. I have tasted the waters of grief and been thankful that they made me thirst more for Jesus and the world to which I belong. Do you belong there, too, friend?
.
My hope is that someday we will meet in Glory, and will know that while we traversed this life as internet strangers but friends there was never a moment we weren’t cheering each other on toward the cry of “Well done!”
.

Sometimes to be courageous requires that we be reminded of whose we are. As you begin this homeschool journey or continue on the path with dedication, dear friend, remember that parenthood is a holy calling. And Christ will always equip us for what He is calling us to. Including the education of the precious souls entrusted to our care.

Today we’re discussing my favorite of Charlotte’s principles, the primary recognition that children are born persons. This concept has shaped and changed my views of motherhood and education in more ways than I can count. From my musings:

“ A child as a person includes the capacious nature of their hearts. They have an innate ability to love with all the fierceness and loyalty we imagine in the hearts of the bravest heroes. Where we grownups often struggle, they are so earnest and sincere in prayer and gentleness and forgiveness. They still have a sin nature, just like adults, but they have a conscience and a bit of humility, too, that is exclusive to childhood. Their innocence – perhaps lack of cynicism is more apropos – allows them the freedom to ask any question that comes of what they see or hear.”
.
When you recognize your child as a person- created Imago Dei and with a God given purpose- your perspective shifts to a more eternal one and the methods you employ in parenting and in personal life change dramatically. I am not the same person I was before I met Charlotte and I am grateful that the Lord led her to share her passion for children and personal responsibility in writing so that we might benefit from her insight, too.

It was our first day of summer term today. I went

It was our first day of summer term today. I went against my own advice and started on a Monday. Ripped the Bandaid off, if you will.

It went about as well as could be expected 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️😭 So I’m putting something pretty here in a little square to remind me and you, dear heart, that blessings and beauty abound even in the difficult days.
.
It’s after 5 o’clock and we just finished up for the day so I’m off to make a quick dinner and then Trail Life tonight. Whew.
.
Here’s your reminder that what you see online is merely a façade, and that everyone has struggles in real life. Enjoy the sanctification this glorious #homeschool life offers and keep on loving what must be done.

Before you begin home education you must realize t

Before you begin home education you must realize that everything you’ve ever thought about “education” is most likely wrong. Government schools are created in the Prussian model if you are interested in researching the purposes of that, and John Taylor Gatto’s The Underground History of American Education is a great place to begin.
.
Second, almost no person has the patience to homeschool. Only by the grace of God do most of us make it day to day. Be prepared to feel like a failure, to lose your temper, to be humbled, to be sanctified. Also be prepared to feel elated, to feel loved, to find the holiness in the mundane, and to truly understand what it means that our children are created Imago Dei.
.
Education is a life, but an excellent education is a life well lived. A well lived life is full of intention, commitment, diligence, mistakes, gratitude, humility, grace, honesty, truth, and beauty. The goal of home education should not be focused solely, or even primarily, on academics.
.
Rightly ordered relationships and affections for ourselves, modeled for our children, must come first. The Lord is a kind Father and our submission to His will to homeschool is but the first step. Guiding our children toward rightly ordered lives and praying for the Holy Spirit to grow the seeds we plant is more important than the 3 R’s. If you remember this each morning, regardless of how the day goes, you will be able to rest each night knowing God’s grace and love cover every shortcoming.
.
Hold fast to Him and be encouraged- no worthy thing comes easily but through Him we can do everything He calls us to. And our children’s hearts are absolutely worth every tear, gray hair, and heart exploding moment of joy that home education brings.

There is so much good our gracious Father has best

There is so much good our gracious Father has bestowed upon us. And it is worth fighting for!
.
Let us not grow weary in well-doing, for we are shaping a generation through every act of humble obedience. Through submission and love, grace and mercy, truth and justice- He molds us, and through us our children.
.
May this fight for what is good and right make us bold proclaimers of the Gospel and fearless defenders of our homes. Have courage and be vigilant, friends. This battle is fierce- but we know how it ends.
.
Soli Deo Gloria.

The world feels dark and tumultuous right now. So

The world feels dark and tumultuous right now. So many storms both physical and spiritual seem to be battling in every realm. And the world? Well, friends, the world and the prince of the air are trying desperately to remove all things true, good, and beautiful.
.
But we know Truth and we call Him Savior. We know Good and we call Him Jehovah. We know Beauty and we call Him Messiah. There is no good thing that is not a gift sprung from the ever flowing fountain of His grace.
.
Fight the darkness. Revel in the beautiful. Walk in the Truth with your children. Test each Spirit against the Scriptures. Submit your feelings to obey Christ and the curtain of the darkness will be torn apart. Be bold in your faithfulness and the buds of good fruit will bloom and grow.
.
May all who come beside and behind us find us faithful.
