What is notebooking?
What is notebooking anyway?
Simply put, notebooking is collecting thoughts, ideas, and printed materials into a notebook. It’s a great way to help facilitate memory work, create homeschool portfolios, and keep fun records of things learned.
Notebooking is also a way to help your child learn to take pride in their work as they are creating something they can show to grandparents, friends, and look back over throughout the years.

Notebooking through Harry Potter
We have been reading the illustrated version of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. It is gorgeous and so much fun to read, so that is where the inspiration for these pages came from, but you could use the note booking pages for any of the books or to go along with a movie study, which is something we love to do.
Creating matchbooks for each subject the children study like potions and herbology, writing out a narration for a chapter, and using favorite quotes for copywork are just a few ideas for studying these lovely stories. In fact, we have included a page in our Harry Potter Inspired Notebooking Pages just for recording quotes. Here are 6 of my favorite quotes from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone to get you started.
- The trouble is, humans do have a knack of choosing precisely those things that are worst for them. – Dumbledore
- It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live. – Dumbledore
- To have been loved so deeply, even though the person who loved us is gone, will give us some protection forever. – Dumbledore
- He didn’t know what he was going to — but it had to be better than what he was leaving behind.
- After all, to the well-organised mind, death is but the next great adventure. – Dumbledore
- There are some things you can’t share without ending up liking each other, and knocking out a twelve-foot mountain troll is one of them.
